Job 37:1–13 (NASB95)

1 “At this also my heart trembles, And leaps from its place.

2 “Listen closely to the thunder of His voice, And the rumbling that goes out from His mouth.

3 “Under the whole heaven He lets it loose, And His lightning to the ends of the earth.

4 “After it, a voice roars; He thunders with His majestic voice, And He does not restrain the lightnings when His voice is heard.

5 “God thunders with His voice wondrously, Doing great things which we cannot comprehend.

6 “For to the snow He says, ‘Fall on the earth,’ And to the downpour and the rain, ‘Be strong.’

7 “He seals the hand of every man, That all men may know His work.

8 “Then the beast goes into its lair And remains in its den.

9 “Out of the south comes the storm, And out of the north the cold.

10 “From the breath of God ice is made, And the expanse of the waters is frozen.

11 “Also with moisture He loads the thick cloud; He disperses the cloud of His lightning.

12 “It changes direction, turning around by His guidance, That it may do whatever He commands it On the face of the inhabited earth.

13 “Whether for correction, or for His world, Or for lovingkindness, He causes it to happen.

“ God is talking “

God talks TO US through

THE HOLY SPIRIT, HIS WORD, OTHER BELIEVERS, CIRCUMSTANCES

And when you dismiss The Holy Spirit, His word, other believers

He usually arrest our attention through circumstance

And when you’re not listening to God

You find yourself in the same predicament as Moses

You miss your blessing

Here’s some advice [ Numbers 20 ]

“ Don’t talk to God if you’re planning on doing what you want to do “

“ God is Talking

In my personal opinion I feel that

Insurance companies are legal scams

It’s legal, but it’s a scam

We pay a particular amount of money each month

For them to cover

Our lives and our property

But when it’s time to collect from them

Because we have lost a love one

Or have damage to our Home, Property, Car etc..

Now it becomes a lot of red tape

To collect from them

Some how

Some way

They try to get out of paying the claim

Especially when bad weather occurs

They love to say that it was

An act of God

So that gets them out of paying the policy

Since they feel it was totally outside of their control

They refer to it as an act of God

So therefore, that takes the blame off of them

But don’t get mad too quick with the insurance companies

Because there’s something to this

That needs to be seen in the spiritual relm

As we will see in our text

What we have been experiencing in our individual lives

In our families

In our culture

YES IT IS AN ACT OF GOD

You have to see the divine connection

Of what we have been going through

The excruciating heat this past summer

The coronavirus is still sneaking up on people

The increase of war that has been going on

Our government is getting more crooked

The division among races

And one of the most divided races

Is among the African Americans

And then the greatest division in the world

Is among the church/the body of Christ

The church is the only army that kill’s it’s own soldiers

But in all that’s going on

Please don’t miss God in this

If you study your Bible

You will realize that the paralyzing weather that we had

On last week with the freeze

A few months ago with the heat

Did you know that paralyzing weather

Is not an in personal act

By some foreign entity call mother nature

But it is a determinative act

Allowed by Father God

The book of Job is not about Job

The book of Job is about the sovereignty of God

The book of Job shows us that God is not only sovereign

But the book of Job emphasizes the sovereignty of God over every aspect of life

God’s rule over all of His creations

Job 37 shows us how God is so involved in the weather

And not the weather just acting on it’s on

Or mother nature just doing her thing

But the danger of the weather

that we have been experiencing

We are not making the connecting with God

READ Job 37:1-12

God says I am responsible for the lightning,

the thunder, the rain, the snow, the ice

He says I’m responsible for it freezing

One minute we are outside working in the yard

A few hours later pipes are bursting

And what is sad when it comes down to all the weather

We are not connecting the weather to God

According to this passage of scripture and many more

Weather is not an impersonal force

It is directly related to what God causes or what God allow

So in this past weather we had last week

And also any pandemic that we are going through

If we miss God

We will settle for the storm

If we miss God

We are going to settle for the impersonal activity we think

Is happening around us

Apart from a personal God

13 “Whether for correction, or for His world, Or for lovingkindness, He causes it to happen.

Whether for correction – God is trying to fix something

Or for His world – God is trying to benefit something

Or for lovingkindness – God wants to demonstrate His mercy

He causes it to happen

The whole point to this pandemic after pandemic after pandemic

And this crazy weather after crazy weather

Is that there’s a PURPOSE in the storm

As we all go through our personal pandemics

As we go through our personal storms

As we go through our personal heat waves

As we go through our personal problems

He causes it to happen so that His purpose can be manifest

So what is the question that we should ask?

Not when it’s going to end

Not how long I’m gonna have to deal with this

Not when it’s going to get better

But why did God caused it to happen?

Because if we miss that

Then we are inviting another storm

Because God does this

To bring attention to himself

To correct us

To help us

Or to show mercy to us

How much time you and I are looking

For the spiritual reason

To our challenges, troubles, disasters and inconveniences

I’m not talking about throwing up a little fly by night prayer

But I’m talking about seeking diligently a person

So he can guide us into how he wants us to respond to him

In the mist of the challenges we are facing

Which are many

Whenever you have pandemics stacked on top of each other

And you have these weird winter storms

Winter freezing

Pipes bursting

This is not luck, chance, happenstance or fate

This is what you call sovereign purpose

Until we begin, asking the sovereignty questions

What is God doing?

What are you telling me personally?

What changes must I make spiritually in my life?

What changes must the church take on?

And be the kind of church that he wants it to be

And not just a casual weekly gathering

what impact does he want to make in the culture

Jeremiah Chapter 10:1-10

One of the reasons he sends bad weather

Is to wake us up to our idolatry

He says you have been worshiping idols

And these idols you’re worshiping

You have used them to replace me

So let me send some bad weather

Note: In other words you are trying to fulfill something in your life whether it’s JOY, PEACE, CONTENTMENT, FINANCES, LOVE apart from the Sovereign God.

Note: God wants to show you that your idols don’t control the weather

So what God is doing

Is attacking your idolatry

Our idolatry of success

Our idolatry of materialism

Our idolatry of Independence

Our idolatry of religion

Whatever you use to replace the one true and live God

Is an idol

And sometimes he has to bring a little weather

According to the scriptures

To remind us that he is in control

And to get your undivided attention

So now the question becomes will we respond by drawing near to him?

Statement: Don’t miss heaven because of what’s happening on earth . Allow what’s happening on earth to draw you more closely to heaven . to draw you more closer to his presence, his word, his priority

Job 37:13 says He’ll do it for correction

But then he will show love and kindness

Because he wants the correction

But he wants the correction to lead

To seeing what his Mercy is

When he melts the ice

And he will bring calm and comfort

Because we have responded to him

Hebrews 12:25–27 (NASB95)

25 See to it that you do not refuse Him who is speaking. For if those did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less will we escape who turn away from Him who warns from heaven.

26 And His voice shook the earth then, but now He has promised, saying, “Yet once more I will shake not only the earth, but also the heaven.”

27 This expression, “Yet once more,” denotes the removing of those things which can be shaken, as of created things, so that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.

“ God is talking “

Example: When I was a little boy my mother used to say doing bad weather

Cut the TV off

Sit still

Don’t run the water

Don’t wash dish

Don’t take a bath

Because God is talking

Put a sheet over the mirror

What mama was saying

Because things was being disturbed up there

God wants me to hear something down here

Because the atmosphere was being shaken

God wanted me to pay attention to something

Grandmother and mama didn’t have no Seminary degree

But they was explaining what Hebrews chapter 12 verses 25 through 27 was talking about

When God disturbs the natural order of things

He calls it being shaken

When he disturbs the normality of things

Things in this world is not normal

And the sacred and secular are both walking around as if things are actually normal

Note: When it’s not normal there is a shaking

Note: Do not ignore what He is saying

Note: God speaks through his word, but then he reiterated it through the circumstances and the circumstances is disturbing the natural order of things

Hebrews 12:27 (NASB95)

27 This expression, “Yet once more,” denotes the removing of those things which can be shaken, as of created things, so that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.

Note: what God is trying to tell us in verse 27 is that the spiritual is more important than the physical

Note: He’s shaking our physical world to draw attention to a greater spiritual reality

Note: He’s trying to get us to prioritize the spiritual over the physical

Quote: everything visible and physical is always proceeded by that which is invisible and spiritual so if you want to properly address the visible physical you must identify and properly address the spiritual and invisible that is the cause

Quote: if all you see is what U see then you’re not seeing all there is to be seen

Note: God is saying that I’m not getting enough spiritual attention, enough spiritual priority and I’m not getting enough spiritual focus

Note: REMOVE the things that can be SHAKEN so I can reveal the things that cannot be shaken

Note: RECOGNIZE your idols and get rid of them

Isaiah 45:7 (NASB95)

7 The One forming light and creating darkness, Causing well-being and creating calamity; I am the Lord who does all these.

Lamentations 3:32 (NASB95)

32 For if He causes grief, Then He will have compassion According to His abundant lovingkindness.

Note: there is a misnomer that God doesn’t cause negative things [ 2nd Cor. 1:8-9 ]

2 Corinthians 1:8–9 (NASB95)

8 For we do not want you to be unaware, brethren, of our affliction which came to us in Asia, that we were burdened excessively, beyond our strength, so that we despaired even of life;

9 indeed, we had the sentence of death within ourselves so that we would not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead;

Note: if God didn’t allow these things, that’s going on, the heat, the freezing, the pandemic, and every other pandemic. If God didn’t allow it, he wouldn’t be sovereign.

Note: He’s trying to deepen our focus on Him

Hebrews 12:28–29 (NASB95)

28 Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe;

29 for our God is a consuming fire.

Note: it’s all about the kingdom, what is the kingdom? The kingdom is the comprehensive rule of God over every area of your life

What God is saying in verses 28-29

If you belong to me , if you are a Christian

You belong to an unshakable kingdom

That is a kingdom that is not limited

To the physical created world

In which your five senses exist

This world that’s breaking down around us

need not have the last say so in your life

And in your circumstances

If you’re not run to God more

If you’re not talking to God more

If you’re not in his word more

In worship more

In spiritual ministry more

That means you don’t get the message

So that means you can just wait for the next storm

28 Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe;

Verse 28 – [ gratitude ] get your praise on

Verse 28 – [ service ] – In St. Mark checking on each other and putting difference down
